Christopher Nkunku has claimed he would have joined Chelsea even if they finished lower than 12th last season.
The France international joined the Blues last month in a £53million deal from RB Leipzig after months of speculation over his future.
Nkunku says last year's disastrous campaign, which saw Chelsea accumulate just 47 points in the league, is a one-off and it didn't deter him from joining the club. In an interview with The Times, the 25-year-old said: 'The season of Chelsea last year wasn't good, everybody knows this.
'This year is a new project, new year, new season. I am the new project and I am happy to be here.'
