1.Mô tả

  Methanol là chất lỏng trong suốt, không màu, tan hoàn toàn trong nước. Methanol là loại alcohol chính. Nó là một dung môi phân cực và cháy với ngọn lửa không phát sáng.

2.Ứng dụng

a.Sản xuất sơn và nhựa :

•   Dùng methanol trong sản xuất nhựa Urea-formaldehyd và nhựa phenol-formadehyd.
  
• Những chất này là nguyên liệu cho ngành công nghiệp carton thô.
  
• Methanol được dùng trong lacquer do có độ hoà tan và bay hơi tốt.

b.Công nghiệp cao su:làm dung môi cho cao su trong các sản phẩm khác nhau.

Ngoài ra Methanol được dùng trong

•   Mựcin
•    Keodán
•   Chất chống đông
•   Dược,thuốc diệt cỏ
•    Cồn khô
•   Làm xăng cho nhiên liệu
•    Biodiesel
•   Làm formalin 37%

*Trên thế giới, Methanol có thể tổng hợp ra methyl acetate và tổng hợp ra acetone
